Past Project

Toyota

The most widely-cited real-world use of Obeya comes from Toyota during the development of the Prius in the early 1990s. Faced with unprecedented technical complexity and cross-functional challenge, Toyota’s Chief Engineer, Takeshi Uchiyamada, created a central Obeya space to bring discipline leaders together in one visual environment. In that room, all key project information — technical data, schedules, issues and decisions — was visible simultaneously. This enabled faster escalation, clearer alignment and real-time decision-making across engineering, production, design and marketing, helping the Prius launch successfully under tight timelines.
